November 04, 2008

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Japanese investments in Indonesia is likely to be affected by the global financial crisis. President of the Jakarta-Japan Club, Seiji Komuro, said the number of projected investments next year is likely to decline. “It’s not that we don’t want to invest, but if the world’s finances are not improving, we must tighten our belts,” he said yesterday.

However, Komura said, Indonesia is still an attractive place for investment. Favorite areas of investment are mining, forestry and fishery. “Indonesia’s natural resources attract the most investors," he said.According to Komura, who also heads the Marubeni Corp., next year his company will still increase its investments in Indonesia. “So far we have put US$ 1 billion in investments and the amount will grow next year,” he said.
