Nampost Savings Bank has taken banking to the poor and to the remote rural areas of the country. For many years, the poor and those living in rural areas have been classified as ‘unbankable’, but Nampost’ Savings Bank has opened doors to people who previously could not open accounts at commercial banks.David Adetona spoke to Bertie Reyneke, Nampost Savings Bank general manager, to get more insight the operations of the bank:
Thank you for the opportunity to inform the public about Nampost Savings Bank products. The Smartcard is actually our savings account that works using a Smartcard. It is the cheapest and safest way to do your banking. There is no PIN number as your fingerprints will activate the card, therefore no one else can steal your PIN number and operate your card. Only you can work on it.Furthermore, there is no magnetic strip on the back of the card as it is driven by a micro chip. Nobody can thus clone your card and misuse it.
